Featherweight Challange and Fabric Therapy

My update on the Featherweight challenge. I am really pleased with the result so far.
The quilt is all scraps almost too small to use but look at the great result. Many thanks to Ria and Natima.Although this quilt has almost doubled in size I want to add some more blocks.
Adding more blocks will have to wait a while. First because I have used all my too small scraps Yahoo. The second reason is an unexpected trip to Reno to see my Mom.
No sewing machine.
I have decided on a small project while I'm away.
A charm pack to make spools . I figure they are portable and don't require quite as much light as needle turn applique. Also piecing doesn't need to be snipped while stitching. Airlines still don't let us stitchers carry a complete set of tools.
We definitely live in interesting times.
It has been a very long time since I have lived in the snow. I will post photos of the Sierra Mts in late winter. Burr

Bits and Pieces

Some times you accomplish lots and other times it's just bits and pieces. Here are a couple bits I've done this week.
I felted my Dad's ties and this is the result. The 2 ties on the outside edges fulled but didn't loose much in size. They were labeled 100% wool. The middle ties started out the same size but more loosely woven. Very different result; felted by at least 50%.
I will include them in my new crazy wool quilt which I started while visiting Natima earlier this month. ONE
TWO

2 of 4 Dancing Dollies blocks completed. That's 50% so I guess I'll do all 4.
Other quilting included 32 blocks for the scrap fence rail project and some quilt as you go string squares for community quilts.
Lots accomplished but not a lot too show at this time.

Lightening Strikes

A quilt made by quilters in different places using the fence rail block and a Singer Featherweight sewing machine.

My new Featherweight.

Ria and Nat are both using vintage Featherweight machines. Mine is a new version of the old machine.

Sewing with my new Featherweight is a joy. It weighs 11lbs like the original and is great to take to quilt group.

The blocks are laid out 2 light strips and 3 medium to dark strips.

All the strips are cut from scraps. Some date back to quilts and garments made in the 1980's.I found a box of little bits that needed to be used while cleaning out sewing room.

The zig zag pattern created by the placement of the blocks is called streak of lightening .
I'm looking forward to seeing how the scraps go together.

Chocolates for Quilters

Why do quilters need chocolates ? or New uses for empty boxes.

The chocolate lady bugs are trying to find a home in the empty Christmas chocolate box. They are out of luck I got there first. All quilters save useful boxes. Those that used to contain chocolates are particularly welcome if I got to eat the chockies Yumm.

This box now holds the cut strips for a fence rail blocks which are part of a Featherweight Challenge
by Natima at Notjustnat. I am using scraps from a clean out. Some pieces are just too small to keep. The cut size of each strip is 1 1/2"x 6". Anything smaller was sent to the paddock. translate bin.

The fabric scraps were saved from quilts and garment construction any cotton was hoarded in the early days. The stars are off cuts from a pair of shorts made in year 8 textiles by my DD in the 80's.
